"Live Long and Prosper" A Golden Dawn Tribute to Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015)

Imperator's Vlog, February 27, 2015

Today the world grieves the passing of Leonard Nimoy, who played the original role of Mr. Spock, first officer or James T Kirk aboard the star ship Enterprise passed away today at his home in Los Angeles. He was 83.

The first time I laid eyes on Leonard Nimoy in his role of Mr. Spock I was mesmerised. I was 11 at the time and at a boy scout meeting when I saw Mr. Spock on TV in the next room. I was drawn to him like a magnet.

That was it. Every chance I got, I found one excuse after the other not to go to boy scout meetings for the rest of the year, so that I could watch the adventures of Jim Kirk and Spock. There is no television series that had a more profound impact on my spiritual life than Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek which I discovered at a very formative age.

Leanord Nimoy, in his role as the Vulcan first officer aboard the Starship Enterprise led me to first contact with Vulcan culture.

The Vulcans in turn led me to some of the most formative questions of my life:
  • "Are we alone in the universe?
  • "Do life forms exist beyond the limits of our perception? and
  • "If so, how can we contact them?"
These questions led me to Magick.

Leonard Nimoy. Thank you for the inspiration that led me to discover the reality of the inner planes and to establish contact with the beings living on those planes.

So tonight, in honor or your memory, and in recognition of the profound impact Spock had on my spiritual attainment, I salute you, Leonard Nimoy, and I dedicate tonight's vlog to you.

You were - my childhood hero.

Live long and prosper,
Spock - old friend - on the other side.

Golden Dawn Blog Fleet

Readers of Golden Dawn blogs will have noticed  over the past week that the Golden Dawn blog fleet has been rapidly expanding. First, we observed Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the Enterprise D engaging Borg reconstructionists over on the Gyllene Gryningen blog.

For a while, it even looked like GH Frater SR may have been assimilated! by the collective.

Traditional GD or Reconstructionist Collective?
Shortly thereafter, Captain "AIT" Sisko, from the Heaven's Within Earth blog brought the Defiant to Kirk's aid, foiling Grand Nagus Zink's latest scheme.

It seems that Star Trek subtext is rapidly spreading throughout the Golden Dawn blogosphere. Yesterday, on Morgan Drake Eckstein's Gleamings From the Golden Dawn blog, I was called to account by Dirk, one of Morgan's readers, for mistakenly suggesting that the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701A) was a Galaxy class starship.

Here was my reply to Dirk:
"My favorite starship, despite its lack of shields, inferior weaponry, and top speed of only Warp 5.2, will always be the Enterprise NX-01, commanded by Johnathon Archer.
I even like the armor hull plating. But then again, I am also a big fan of classic cars. The NX-01 reminds me of another personal favorite, the 57 Chevy Bel Air.
Here is what I mean:"

This in turn led me to notice Morgan Drake Eckstein bears an uncanny resemblance to Jonathan Archer, the first Captain of the very first Enterprise.

Here, see for yourself:

From where I sit, it looks like Enterprise NX-01 just came out of mothballs, and the GD Blog Fleet just got another new Captain. After all, why should there not be Blog Fleet Captains who are not members of the HOGD/AO?

Come to think of it, I think we might still have one more Blog Fleet Captain somewhere out there in Cyberspace ...

So there you have it! The Golden Dawn blog fleet as it stands in the Blogosphere today:

So Captain Morgan ...
When can I take the NX-01 out for a spin

Science Fiction or Spiritual Federation?

Morgan Drake Eckstein recently wrote on his Gleamings from the Golden Dawn blog:
"As most of my readers know, David Griffin of the HOGD/AO has recently associated himself with Captain James T. Kirk, and his friend, Tomas (SR) with Spock. The association of the Federation with Golden Dawn puzzles me a little because there are moments that I am not sure if it is just his Order that he is connecting it with, or if the association refers to all honest magical branches of the tradition. This association has led to some strange mental moments on my end---now I cannot help but think about Griffin whenever I run across a picture of William Shatner's version of Captain Kirk. Sometimes it leads to me laughing out loud at a picture because it now has a completely new subcontext to me."
As a Trekkie since my youth, the recent Star Trek sub-context on this Golden Dawn blog has been a source of both great enjoyment and amusement for me.

Morgan Eckstein has raised a very serious and most fascinating question above, however, for which he deserves kudos:

If entire worlds can celebrate their differences, maintain their independence and autonomy, yet forge a brotherhood transcending both culture and race, what might a similar spiritual alliance look like?

I have found many of the ideas arising from the Star Trek sub-context brought forth by Morgan Eckstein and by Neognostica on their respective blogs extremely thought provoking.

Both Morgan and Neo, each in his own way, has suggested, for example, that my "space cowboy," "arm photon torpedos and ask questions later" style of leadership may be somewhat of an anachronism in our community today.

Please bear in mind that only the fewest in the HOGD/AO choose to publicly associate their images with our order on the internet. The vast majority of our Initiates and Adepts actually prefer to remain hidden safely in obscurity, so I can't give them here the recognition that they rightly deserve.

Perhaps Morgan and Neo are correct, and I am already somewhat of a walking anachronism. Nonetheless, more than anything else, I am deeply honored by the fine crew of Initiates and Adepts with whom it remains my great privilege to serve our esoteric community.
"Dammit Jim, I'm a lawyer, not a doctor!"
Finally, in moments like these, when I feel the mounting pressure of years and perhaps as though this horse has seen its finest races already, I find comfort and solace in all of the fine, hard working, and upcoming Golden Dawn Initiates and Adepts, whose generation will carry on our mission once this old horse has gone to pasture.
