Lesson Two:

"As a Golden Dawn Magician, 
what kind of problems do you try to solve?

What kinds of questions do you ask?"

Hermetic Magick and Alchemy arose in ancient Egypt and come to you across Centuries - passed down for Millennia from Hermetic Master to Disciple in an unbroken chain of Adepts. 

The questions you ask as a Golden Dawn Magician are:

• 1) How can I become more than human?
• 2) What are the techniques or practices that can unchain my Divine Spark to fully emerge and manifest within me?
• 3) How should I live and work internally to reach this objective?

As a consequence of these questions, the problems you must resolve as a Golden Dawn Magician are posed by the practice of true and ancient techniques provided by traditional initiatic science.

The first problem involves the reliability of methods, which have been tested over generations of previous practitioners. For example, Kerstin Johnson from Stockholm, Sweden recently wrote: 

"Since working with Golden Dawn Magick, I've noticed a marked difference in my approach to common problems, increased patience, and a serious boost to my intuitive abilities."

A second problem as a Golden Dawn Magician you try to solve involves the ability to learn and practice ancient methods correctly rather than according to your own understanding, which can distort and negate their efficacy.

The third and most important problem you try to solve as a Golden Dawn Magician is how to develop your energetic body. To get the most out of Golden Dawn Magick, you must over time develop your energetic body, integrate it into daily life, and use it frequently, as you do your physical body. As you begin to feel the physically perceptible energy in your astral body grow and strengthen, you will ultimately gain physical confirmation you are on the right path in cultivating your energetic Soul.

The main purpose and objective of the Golden Dawn system of Magic is the emergence into full consciousness of the Divine Spark that lies within each of us, which is stifled by contemporary education and by life experience reliant exclusively on the senses. Magicians seek to complete their energetic evolution in their lifetime, described by the Golden Dawn as:

"To become more than human!"

In the beginning, much wisdom can be gained through critical thinking about Magick; posing good questions, reflecting upon them, and at length discovering answers for one's self. Ultimately, Magick is a journey of Self-discovery. although Magickal training provides the skills needed to unleash the dormant powers of the Soul.

Lesson Seven:

"How should the Golden Dawn System of Magic ...
... affect my view of the world?"

The Golden Dawn does not influence the world view of the aspirant, but rather gives the Magician an entirely new vision and understanding. This occurs through direct, personal experience and verification of the Inner, Spiritual Planes, and through contact with other non-corporeal forms of intelligence.

The existence of inner laws that are not at all unlike the laws of commonly known physics, lead to verify that material human life as we know it is but a profound illusion which is self-constructed by means of the five senses. Therefore the previous, limited view of the world, is transformed through enlarged vision, including all of the planes of creation, rather than merely the physical one - All of this with personal proof gained through direct experience obtained using the magical practices, etc.

Lesson 6: Core Golden Dawn: Assumptions Underlying the Golden Dawn

Lesson Six:

"What do Golden Dawn Magicians ...

... take for granted or assume?"

Golden Dawn Magicians take for granted the existence of the Divine essence of the natural human being, which can be developed, improved, illuminated, and rendered perfect through the practices of the order, which are of the highest possible elevation. They assume that it is possible, through putting into practice certain precise rituals and techniques, the true nature of the human being may be awakened and revealed in its full divine, and not merely material, powers, and that thereby a new world will be revealed.

They assume that there is a much larger world than that which we see as material which is merely only a small part, and that the real world extends into subtle planes invisible to human senses, but perceptible through developing other faculties.

Hence the importance of the development of the Second Body or "Subtle Body," without which perception of the inner worlds remains impossible.

Core Golden Dawn 5: Ideas, Concepts, and Theories

"What are the core Golden Dawn ...

... ideas, concepts, or theories?"

As previously mentioned, the fundamental precepts are to "become more than human" and to awaken the Divine Spark that lies dormant in every human being.

Theories revolving around these precepts affirm that every human being is unto his or herself a small God, slumbering and without knowledge that he or she is different than what they believe themselves to be or that which society has said about them. This theory thus carries us back to the ancient maxim of the mysteries, which remains actual until today ...

"Know Thyself!"

... because in knowing the truth about yourself, you will know the entire Universe!

This maxim alone explains the theory or group of theories of the Magic of the Golden Dawn. It is the fundamental maxim from which arise the following corollaries:

• 1) Human being - You do not know yourself.
• 2) If you knew yourself, you would discover yourself to be much more than you believe you are.
• 3) The order codifies and transmits precisely the techniques that were given in ancient times by the ancient priesthoods and mystery schools.
• 4) Your life is a dream and the techniques of the order, well practiced, can reawaken you to the truth of what you truly are, etc.

Core Golden Dawn 4: Types of Information or Data Golden Dawn Magicians Gather

"What sorts of information or data ...

... do Golden Dawn Magicians gather?"

Information or data collected by Golden Dawn Magicians is for their spiritual practice and is symbolical in nature. In magic, the symbol is sovereign as a unique tool to communicate with the deeper layers of the human mind, setting into motion the true spiritual life of the Magician.

With the proper choice of symbols, the Golden Dawn system of Magic suggests to the deep layers of the mind the path to take and the energies to awaken suitable for the awakening of the Divine Spark of the human being.

This data is gathered from the symbol system coagulated for centuries around the structure of the Qabalistic Tree of Life, so that it may form a unique corpus of knowledge, perfect to discover and guide the magician through the Inner Planes lying beyond the world perceived by the senses. A Magician learns these symbols, and learns to use them to enter into communication with the deep mind and to develop the energetic body.

Core Golden Dawn 3: Inferences or Judgements Magicians Make

Lesson Three:

"What types of inferences or judgments ...
.. do Golden Dawn Magicians typically make?"

The fundamental inference of the Hermetic tradition, from which the Golden Dawn is but one late manifestation, is that:

"Everything is ONE."

A second inference follows, since everything in its recondite structure is the replica of the One, that:

"As above ...

... so below."

The third inference then follows that by acting on the Microcosm, the human being, we can as a consequence affect the Macrocosm or Universe.

We stop with these first three inferences, because, properly understood, the resulting conclusions explain the whole of Magic.

If everything is one, it follows that we are Divine in power and virtue, although we are not conscious of this for a variety of reasons. Thus we know that, as part of the one, we can not die since the One is eternal ...

"Nothing is created ...

... but everything transforms."

If all is One, it further follows that ...

"We are all Divine ...

... in power and virtue."

... but we remain unaware of this for a certain series of reasons. Yet we know that being part of unity, we may not die in so far as the One is eternal and nothing is created but everything transforms - Thus this indicates to us that also in our small unity ...

"We may transform ourselves ...

... into something else."

... precisely as does the Universe, which is always in movement and transformation.

Thus the Magician, rather than waiting for nature to take its normal course of evolution over millions of years, accelerates the process using the same natural laws, to arrive at the completion of the evolutionary process in a vastly accelerated manner.

This brings us to the second inference which affirms "As above, so below," which carries us to the conclusion that each observation of the laws that govern the great world (Macrocosm, Universe), should in principle, by virtue of the previously stated laws, rule also in the small world (Microcosm, or the human being).

From here follow all of the techniques of purest Magic, which teaches how to move within ourselves the precise energies (third inference) which in turn through resonance (since everything is interconnected) move the energies in the great world (macrocosm) in such a manner that each internal conquest can reverberate and become manifest in the macrocosm or great world rather than remaining pure illusion.

"What kinds of problems do they try to solve?"

The questions each Golden Dawn Magician asks her- or himself are:

1. How can I become more than human?
2. What are the techniques or practices that permit my Divine Spark to fully emerge and manifest within me?
3. How should I live and work internally to reach this objective?

As a consequence, the problems Golden Dawn magicians must resolve are posed by the practice of true and ancient techniques provided by traditional initiatic science, which can lead to actual completion of the research established by the above questions.

The first problem involves the reliability of the methods, which can only be solved by certainty of their provenance, their having been tested by previous practitioners who attest to their efficiency.

The second problem involves the ability to learn and practice the ancient methods correctly rather than according to one's own understanding, which would distort them and nullify their efficiency.

The third problem Golden Dawn magicians try to solve is how to develop their energetic body. For Golden Dawn magic to become effective, one's energetic body must over time be developed, integrated into daily life and used frequently, as is the physical body.

Having accomplished this, the Magician is on the right path for spiritual development according to the Magic of the Golden Dawn.
