For the many of us who began as Catholics, this is easier to internalize than the Eastern idea of "Dharma transmission".

I think that the idea of Lineage being important is very similar to that of Initiation being important, in that spiritual development without either possible...but spiritual development within this tradition and current is best accomplished with both.

Thanks for another solid post!

H.Fra.AITAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00688466441427496085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8814337050017726886.post-34430559162942070662009-09-02T07:10:23.458-07:002009-09-02T07:10:23.458-07:00This was an interesting read. Though not a practioner of the HOGD, I've incorporated much of it into my own studies upon my own path, and I agree that depending on ones perspective of the study lineage is important. The problem that I see is that with establishing lineage, one establishes credibility, at least a percieved credibility in the external world. And its this credibility that practioners hang their participation on. Their participation is predicated on a "time in service".

But the arguement for how the practioner approaches the practice is equally as valid. In my own opinion, one must contemplate lineage to establish a baseline of knowledge transmission, and to see that one thing begets another, and so on. Otherwise, the how and why of something gets lost to the "we just do it the way we do it" causation.

LVXGreg Stewarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17688459525360750872noreply@blogger.com
