Thank you for this long and wonder...Care GH Fr SR,

Thank you for this long and wonderful essay. If I may, just a few comments :)

Your conclusion “Dion Fortune's method [of inner plane contacts] was and is not compatible with the Golden Dawn...” makes a lot of sense from the way you seem to read the Pledge Form and Neophyte Obligation. However, there is at least one other reading. Dion Fortune’s “mediumship” was quite different to that of the average medium. The difference lies in the phrase used in the Obligation, “any UNINITIATED person, power, or being...”

I do not believe Dion Fortune was ever passive towards an uninitiated person, power or being. All her contacts were “initiated” both in the general sense and, within her personal belief system, particular sense (i.e. the contacts were once incarnated initiates).

I agree mediumistic passivity in the general way mediumship is conducted is a breach of the Obligation. I do not think the initiated mediumship of Dion Fortune was a breach, nor would similar initiated activities today be. The inclusion of the word “uninitiated” by Westcott or Mathers was obviously very conscious. We are passive when receiving initiation and this explains the “person” aspect of the phrase, but not the “power or being” aspect. To me, from my reading, it is clearly saying passivity towards initiated powers or beings is in keeping with the Obligation.

Regarding the physical vs ‘astral’ reality of the Secret Chiefs and GH Fr LES’s account I have little to say. However, I would like to ask one question. The description of a physical Third Order and their spiritual accomplishments aligns them in many ways with the incarnated Tibetan Rinpoches, who consciously choose their next incarnation for the sake of all sentient beings. However, these Masters, whose physical presence during spiritual practice from my own personal experience can approach what Mathers describes, are physical and accessible. Though very busy, we can see them, meet them and receive teachings from them. Why is the Third Order so inaccessible when their teachings and presence would benefit so many people? Why do they communicate only through one or a few chosen people?

Thanks again for the post :)Peregrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09508191641503321789noreply@blogger.com
